I'll be the first to admit that many of the lessons that I learned being a business owner I learned by making mistakes and that's ok, in business as in life mistakes are bound to happen but the most important thing is to make sure you learn from your mistakes.
One of the biggest mistakes that I frequently see business owners make is not fully marketing their product or service.
In today's technical age, too many people are missing out on the benefits of internet marketing. I was researching a few of my social network marketing sites and I was simply amazed at how many people in my network are professionals; artist, musicians, authors or entrepreneurs yet many of them don't have websites.
It makes me question are these individuals in business to make money or are they there for enjoyment? Imagine how successful they could be if they took full advantage of all the tools that are available to them. I love what I do, but I enjoy the benefits of making money too.
Being that I'm also an author and publisher it simply amazes me that there are other authors and publishers out there who are relying on online social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter to market and promote their products and services. These are all good avenues of expanding your network of friends who could potentially become customers, however, I feel that professionals should distinguish themselves as professionals.
Don't rely on MySpace to market and promote your business. Sure, it's a great alternative and not to mention it's FREE but when you're trying to convey information about you, and what you offer do you really need the limited text boxes, friends list and unnecessary applications that you don't really use anyway? I love Twitter too, but how much can you really say about your business, product or service in 140 characters?
