Build your business doing what you love.
Some people want to try a new business venture but they may not know where to start. I always say start with what you're good at. I started my first business when I was eight-years old, although I didn't know at the time that my love and passion for writing would lead me to becoming an author and the CEO of a lucrative publishing business. So now I encourage anyone to take what you love; a hobby or sport and turn it into a business. One of the benefits is when you do what you love you're going to work harder at it because you enjoy it. You have a passion for it.
One of my girlfriends would give beautiful pieces of costume jewelry that she created to all of her friends and family during the holidays. Her designs were so unique that anytime I needed something special for an event I would call her and immediately she could come up with a one of a kind piece of jewelry that she designed just for me.
When she lost her job I suggested that she start her own jewelry line. Ironically, she had never considered doing what she loves as a means of generating income because for her it was just a hobby. Now she's supporting herself as a jewelry designer and making extremely good money at it.
Starting a business doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. There are so many great businesses that you can start with little or no investment. All that's required is getting online and doing some research.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Food delivery service ~
People are lazy when it comes to picking up takeout orders and let's face it, if it's not Chinese or Pizza it's hard to find a restaurant that delivers, which makes this an appealing business idea. Many restauraunt owners would probably be open to this idea as it also increases business for them.
Web design ~
If you can design good quality web sites, consider using your skill to start a home-based web design business. Web developers are always in constant demand because the industry is constantly changing and there is not a lot of hard work associated with designing basic sites. I'm no web developer and I have managed to teach myself how to design basic simple site that eye appealing and functional.
Senior home care provider ~
Elderly people want to stay in their homes these days. Being that I am also certified as a nursing assistant I see the demand for this type of business. It's really easy because you don't have to be certified to be a non-medical companion or home care provider to assist seniors with tasks of daily living. Getting hired is a plus if you are CPR qualified. Another great thing is that it's so easy to get certified or recertified in BLS (Basic Life Support) online. One site that I have used is CPRToday.com
Pet Sitting Service ~
Another great business idea is an in-home pet sitting service. I hate taking my dogs to the kennel when I have to make frequent out of town trips. They are both super spoiled and are not used to being in a caged environment. However, sometimes it's hard to find someone who will care for your pets and keep them in a safe home environment. And it's never an option to allow a stranger to care for your pet in your home.
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking. There are so many business ideas that you can come up with, all it takes is being creative. One of the most important things about building a successful business is how you market it.
